I agree with Bud that the editor makes a really simplistic argument against marijuana. Does the writer believe that ALL medical marijuana users in California are lying about the positive benefits derived from using marijuana??? If the writer were more in touch, he would know that many patients use edibles, concentrates and vaporizers to alleviate their pain. I have used marijuana for 3 years for nerve pain and it is as effective as my prescription never medication from my physician. Since using marijuana for pain relief I have stopped using Oxycontin, Vicodine, Codeine and monstrous amounts of anti-inflamatories. Most people against marijuana cite studies from the U.S., the UK, Europe and other countries have produced over 15,000 studies showing that the benefits outweigh the risks in most cases. What other of our "legal drugs" can say that??

I'm not sure where to draw the line with doctor's recommendations, but HempCon is hardly the first trade show to accommodate assembly-line pot docs. The problem is trying to distinguish such operations from brick-and-mortar doctor's offices, where long lines of patients also can be seen daily. In both examples, fair questions can be raised about the thoroughness of the doctor's exam and/or documentation of the medical condition(s) for which cannabis is being recommended.

Plug-and-play doctor's recommendations are one of the major reasons that Prop. 215 patients get little respect in mainstream society, and their continued use as a legal shield cannot be sustained. Prop. 19 offers a route for non-medical cannabis users to obtain pot legally, thus removing the main incentive for them to seek Prop. 215 certification in the first place. This will result in a painful but necessary restructuring of the medipot industry, allowing it to focus on developing best practices and resolving access issues for the remaining core of medical cannabis patients.

I was at Hempcon, SJ, and it was so crowded at these booths that you could barely walk down the aisle. I saw tons of people getting their recs in little booths that were barely the size of a phone booth-you remember the phone booth-right?
I'm wondering if this is just another money making opportunity similar to the pain clinics in Broward County, Florida-where you can get a rec and oxy in the same building. I wonder how these docs sleep at night.

I'll kick things off here with an apology ... the previous version of this page got caught up in a recent site crash, and the comments could not be restored. So if you've already chimed in, please do so again, or go ahead and take the plunge as a new reader. Communication is the first step toward understanding, right?

It's a disaster waiting to happen. Our medicine shouldn't be taxed, just as pharmaceuticals are not taxed. Retail cannabis? Go ahead and tax it. But if you're a med. cannabis patient, you should not have to pay any taxes on your medication.
So, how would this work? Med patients in one line for taxfree medicine, and recreational users in the taxed retail pot line?
Non-medical patients could go to their own shops, like "Weed City" "Pot Mart" for example, for their watered down, chemically treated tobacco, woops, I mean pot products. And the medical patients will keep going to places that supply quality medicine.
I just don't know. Sounds like a mess to me.

Federal law governs interstate activities, not intrastate. I would check into the jurisdiction of the law on local grown and consumed product. As I understand as long as no product or portion thereof crosses state line then the fed has no jurisdiction to act. I am not an attorney, but i would consider this argument.

This does not stop them from acting though. As in Tulare County Calif. the Sherrif is just destroying everything and basically saying sue us on the way out.

What kind of law enforcement is this?

Discusted.

Truth #1-Kids are forced into Drug Rehab because they got caught with Marijuana--not because they are addicted.
Truth#2-The gateway to hard drugs comes from illegal Drug Dealers, NOT Marijuana.
Truth#3-WHISKEY is 8X stronger than BEER, that doesn't mean people are gonna drink the same amount of Whiskey as they do BEER.
Truth#4-Marijuana taken as an Herb does not cause cancer.
Truth#5-You don't see Drug Dealers trying to sell WHISKEY to kids.
Truth#6-Marijuana is less addicting than alcohol.

We have those "freedoms" already huh? Well I'm a medical patient myself, and I can tell you one thing I do NOT feel is safe and "free" In fact, seems like most of the people that are worried about legalization happening are the growers that are already making a killing (and not contributing to society/country with their tax dollars like everyone else) off of weed that's illegal. Oh noes, if marijuana is legal all those illegal growers will have to give up their monthly paycheck!!

Give me a break. Take the money out of black market growers/dealers pockets and give it back into the taxpayers where it belongs. I find it funny how everyone is worried about what Philip Morris does after weed gets legalized - you mean drive prices down, and consistency (and presumably quality) up? That sure is a lot better than the current system eh, of potentially getting robbed/killed/ripped off from your dealer with no recourse available except sticking a barrel in his face?

So Russ Bellville takes a stab at debunking 9/11 truth? That's the litmus test buddy, and you just failed. According to you, only crazy people think that corporations might want a part of a multibillion dollar market and that those corporations will do the same thing to marijuana that they've done to tobacco, food, and pharmecuticals. That's not crazy, that's common sense.

What we need is a bill that releases non-violent marijuana offenders from prison, and prevents non-violent marijuana "offenders" from going to jail or facing other sanctions. The state would save money, and the marijuana will stay underground, free of corporate BS.
