Tammy Murray, who ran a medical marijuana dispensary near Visalia before closing her doors this month in the face of a new Tulare County ordinance, offers this guest column for the Visalia Times-Delta: As the director and chief executive officer of Compassionate Cannabis Information Center, I feel compelled to address my community about this business. It is my sincere wish that the Visalia community and residents throughout the Valley could see that medical marijuana use is not a black and white issue, but a gray one. This issue has been hotly debated, even among our [...]

A judge who forbade a youth from using medical marijuana as part of a probation sentence acted within his authority, a state appeals court has ruled in San Francisco. One justice who dissented called the ruling “precedent-shattering,” and attorneys said the case could be appealed to the California Supreme Court. As reported in this article on S.F. Gate, the Web portal for the San Francisco Chronicle, the First District Court of Appeal said the Solano County judge reasonably decided that becoming drug-free would help the youth turn his life around. In a lengthy dissent, Presiding [...]

Reid Nottoli, 25, has been free on $110,000 bail since shortly after the Dec. 16 raid that netted more than 50 guns, about 5 pounds of marijuana, $15,000 cash and a 100-plant indoor pot garden, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. Picked up the following off indybay.org, a most cool Bay Area-based site if you haven’t seen it before. We’ll be watching for updates on the Facebook situation: CANNABIS CULTURE – For reasons unknown, Cannabis Culture Magazine’s Facebook page has been disabled by the popular social networking site. The Cannabis Culture Facebook page, which had over 25,000 fans, (and was available at this link) disappeared on December 23, 2009. Shortly afterward, administrators of the page received an email notification: Hello, You created a Page that has violated our Terms of Use. A Facebook Page is a [...]

“The public in California faces three options: 1) Legalize marijuana, then regulate it and tax it; 2) tighten up and clarify Proposition 215; or 3) repeal it. “The status quo is unacceptable.” That’s the blunt conclusion of this Sacramento Bee editorial, which would have been more helpful had it recommended the proper course of action. It’s a given that change is needed … but which one? As the editorial properly notes, voters did not expect to open the door for a new class of “pot docs” or anticipate the rise of grow houses, a particularly [...]

Legalization advocate hits the ground at Merced College

Merced College student Jon Benton offers his take on the legalization debate in his Merced Sun-Star column. His column begins: “Your God given right to vote, to toke.” While such sentiments are hardly foreign in university campuses and collegiate discourse, they were probably the last words I expected to see on this particular picket sign. And yet there they were, plastered in large, block letters and being toted around Merced College by an unlikely candidate. Fully clad in the traditional habit and donning a joyful grin, the bespectacled activist drew curious looks and laughs of [...]

Nearly half the applications were from people ages 31-50, according to data provided by the county. A quarter of the applicants lived in North County, most of them in Carlsbad. All of the applicants paid $166 for the card, which identifies them as legitimate medical marijuana patients entitled to carry up to 8 ounces of pot. The county implemented the program this past summer after it lost [...]

So I’ve been perusing the usual media suspects, looking for something newsworthy and unique to post. I’m sure there’s a decent excerpt or retweet somewhere to share, but I’m tired of just poaching and being poached. That’s a very big part of how the game is played online, so it’s not like I’m whining about it or anything. But I suspect if my own muse is getting bored, CPN’s valued readers are getting bored too. And now that I’ve outed my own boring tendencies, it’s time to light up and lighten up. California Pot News [...]
